Meeting
I’m getting blown away right now. There are just too many things going on…and it’s so good! I’ve been in training this whole week at work, and I’m taking it with some Field Engineers. They come from Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, and China. Xiao Ming, from China, is from something totally different. I found out that my company, Alcon, is the primary sponsor of a program called Orbis AKA “The Flying Hospital”. What Orbis does is take a converted DC-10 airplane, and travel to undeveloped countries to provide eye care, and to prevent blindness. They operate as a hospital from the plane, and just go from country to country, offering services with no charge. It is mainly opthalmic cases, and all the systems and supplies are provided by Alcon. Xiao is the technical support, and takes care of the machines. I asked him how many countries he’s visited, and he told it wasn’t much, but 21 countries! That’s ludicrous! Anyway, doctors can sign up to volunteer, and they rotate out as new volunteers come in. Getting to know the other guys too from Latin America has been a blast. I also got to know two people from my work who are training us, and they both happen to be fellow Christians. So I got to find out what churches they go to, and how they serve. It’s just nice to know that they are there.
