Chinatown
I had lunch with my grandpa, aunt and my dad yesterday at a dim sum place. Â It was bomb of course. Â After our goodbyes, I got a chance to walk around Chinatown in LA. Â It’s not that impressive. Â I was expecting it to feel like I walked into China or forget that I’m in LA still, but no. Â I felt almost as if it wasn’t “solid”. Â At the same time, I’m not criticizing it because, honestly, who has control of how it grows? Â I think if tourists come to LA and want to visit some sort of “chinatown” then we should direct them to the SGV and not the one in LA. Â However, as I was walking around and snapping photos here and there, this security guard waved me down, and originally I though he was going to stop me from taking more photos, but instead he wanted to know what camera I had. Â We then got into a long conversation about cameras. Â He owned a 40D. Â Eventually I even shared about how I was headed to China for a year. Â It made me realize that there are a lot of people out there that just want to talk and share their stories. Â Good times.
After that, I drove down Broadway, and I was blown away. Â I don’t think I’ve ever seen this side of LA before. Â It honestly looked like a real city city. Â It was totally reminiscent of New York. Â What ruined it were all the stores on the first level of the buildings, which were mostly run-down and just totally screamed LA. Â There’s potential though. Â I could imagine it with stores that are a little more relevant and upscale, and man I would want to hang out there.
