One Of The Best Scenes

I am in the minority when I say that The Village is a fantastic film. It’s gotten a lot of bad rap because it’s an M. Night Shyamalan film that isn’t the Sixth Sense. I almost feel bad for the guy because every movie since SS has been compared to it and has never been up to par, and because of this, The Village has been off the radar of many people’s “movies to watch list”. Shyamalan was interviewed about this and the initial fuel to make this movie was that he wanted to make a period piece involving a love story. The famed Shyamalan “twist” that’s always expected is of course in there, but was not the main focus. In fact, the “twist” at the end is not even THE twist. The actual twist in the movie is that the main character suddenly changes from Joaquin Phoenix to Bryce Dallas Howard’s. That is too many “twists” mentioned in this post for my comfort.

I actually consider Shyamalan one of my favorite directors. I’ll be the first one to admit that some storylines in his movies are just stinking horrible, but in terms of creating the scenes and telling the story, Shyamalan is amazing. Also an extra thumbs up for always teaming up with James Newton Howard (Dark Knight) for the scores. Here’s the scene from The Village that did two things for me. Love this movie, and love Bryce Dallas Howard.

Hopefully you’ll watch this now, but I think I ruined it for you because of my hype. Oh well. Remember to watch it as a love story and not a movie with just an awesome twist.
