I think the first time I actually got freaked out by a robot was when I saw a video of the “mule”, which is a robot that helps transport supplies. If you haven’t seen it, watch below. What scares me is when they kick it and it regains it’s balance…

<noembed>VIDEO</noembed>

Well, I just saw an article from Engadget showing a robot that mimics a little boy. I’m kind of glad there wasn’t a video to go along with this one since the picture alone just freaks me out. From the article, it says:

A bald, child-like creature dangles its legs from a chair as its shoulders rise and fall with rythmic breathing and its black eyes follow movements across the room.

It’s not human — but it is paying attention.

Haha, I like that last part…”but it is paying attention”. Sounds like a tagline from some movie trailer. Anyway, here’s the picture of the demonchild.

Going along with the robots, this guy gives an interesting talk about robots in warfare, and how it relates with human society. It’s a TED talk.

Microsoft made a video that presents to us a glimpse into the (near?) future. I really like it because with the current technology, everything shown is very feasible very soon. In less than a year, it will be 2010. Doesn’t that seem like the “future” to you? 2000-2009 seem like years with no category. They’re not old, but they’re not the “future” either. They’re just novel years because finally we get to use 20 instead of 19. BUT, 2010, that’s a different story. In all the movies, you know the setting is the “future” when you see the year as 2010 or above. Now we’ll be living in it. Is it everything you dreamed it would be?

<noembed>Video: Future Vision Montage</noembed>

With the speed of improvement though, our generation’s fascination in shiny pretty things degenerates at a quicker rate. This point was so clearly (but amusingly) stated by Louis CK in his interview with Conan here.
